Creating stunning vector illustrations

Illustrations add style and flair and can take a brand to the next level, engaging with your audience and enhancing relevant aspects of the design communications. I’m passionate about creating simple illustrations as well as more intricate patterns.

Back in 2017, I took the lead on the cover design of the Booths Christmas Food to Order book and I had a very clear vision. The design was to be classy and iconic, with an instant connection to Christmas. I was inspired by the midnight sky full of stars and immediately knew the design was going to represent a northern star created from a blend of vector dots. Collaboration with the wonderful illustrator Coralie Bickford-Smith, the 2017 book cover was born.

For the 2021 Booths Christmas Food to Order book, we had a compelling vision to combine photography and vector illustration together. The traditions of a snow globe and the nostalgia it brings drove the concept of looking through the glass into the warmth and magic of a family at Christmas. The over-riding message ‘from our family to yours’ was extremely well received by our audience and the illustration on the cover itself was very engaging.

These vector illustrations were drawn up referencing sicilian tiles. The styles were simple yet effective enough to associate with their origins and colourways were chosen to depict the wine varieties. The use of traditional style patterns meets a modern look, with bold contrasting colours and elegant typographic styling in a central bold colour block.
